My girlfriend has the charming tendency of mutilating my name by coming up with various fun appellations.
There’s Alexei, Lexinton, Lexie, and the list goes on…
Today, she came up with Lexifer.
If we were to unpack that name etymologically, it would mean “bearer of words”, in the same way that “Christopher” means “carrier of Christ” and Lucifer means “bearer of light”.
Considering the fact that I work at a dictionary and study literature in dead languages, I think my girlfriend might just be a genius and have the gift of naming people according to their innate abilities and destinies.
Like Jesus.
I’m going to see if she can also turn our jug of Brita water into a nice Pinot Noir to go with our salmon dinner tonight.
