Artist, Progress and Process
I don’t have too much to add to this article, other than the fact that everyone should read it.
A couple of waystones:
Marco Roth’s treatment of theatrical identity, the notion that interaction leaves us all “wondering whether all sex isn’t ‘simulated sex’ or all conversation isn’t simply a series of ‘theatrical’ gestures meant to showcase something different from the actual words used” speaks to me as a chronically self-conscious extrovert.
Also note the chronology of Roth’s cultural references. It’s roughly inverted. What does that say in an piece about progress? It’s deliciously troublesome, I’d say.
In any case, this is a beautiful article about a fascinating piece of art.
